The program was initiated in 1974 following a severe period of drought in the early '70s. The first LPG cooker model that was introduced was equipped with a cylinder containing 2.75 kg of gas. Later, another, more robust, model was introduced that was fitted with a 6-kg bottle that was better suited to the cooking habits and purchasing power of the target households.
