Andrew and Tom
This is a test of the newly created gasification list
(gasification@crest.org) at CREST.

So far we should have online:

Tom Reed, List Administrator 73002.1213@CompuServe.COM
Andrew Waegel, CREST Technical Administrator asw@crest.org
Tom miles, List Coordinator tmiles@teleport.com

List Administrators will determine who's on the list.

Tom, you had suggested Esteban Chornet as a list administrator. Have you
asked him yet? If not we can just subscribe him to the list and ask him online.

Andrew will send you a message with instructions for list management,
including how to insert the introductory message into the first message that
people receive when they subscribe (or are subscribed) to the list.

Hello new and old members:

This is to announce formally the formation of a GASIFICATION group in the
Bioenergy section of crest.org. It will focus those subscribers who are
particularly interested in gasification (and related thermochemical processes
such as pyrolysis) and will save wasted reading time for those following other
threads. To join, see HELP below.

Dear STOVES: (Is this the correct protocol?)

First, here's my Internet "letterhead":

Golden, CO 80401 Fax: 303-278 0560 (Phone +2)

I applaud Moerman's suggestion of a SHORT CV on each of our talents and
interests. Here's me.

PhD, Phys. CHemistry, U. Minn., 1952; Linde Air (Union Carbide) to 1960; MIT
(Lincoln Labs and Campus) to 1978; Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI, now
NREL or uNREaL) to 1986; Prof. Chemical Engineering, Colorado School of Mines
to present.

Scientist (200 papers??), inventor (20 patents), Engineer (built pyrolysis
plant); Teacher (Thermodynamics at MIT, CSM).

Now "retired", ie
Contract (co-author, Sid Gaur) with NREL to re-write the book "Survey of Biomass
Gasification"; in charge of CEseminars at CSM;

Partner in Sea Sweep - a new oil absorbent from heating sawdust to 350 C (US
Pat, 5,116,785);

Partner in Environmental Energy Associates, EEA, focused on making BIODIESEL
from waste vegetable oil ($-0.10/gal) rather than soybean oil (>$2/gal, lets
subsidize the farmers);

Partner in New Harbors Solutions, Inc. making automotive antifreeze products

President of Biomass Energy Foundation (founder, Harry LaFontaine) and BEF Press
publishing books on gasification

Now doing research on "inverted downdraft woodgas stove" with Ron Larson, hence
my interest in stove group.

Hi folks!

I just wanted to drop you all a note today (before I cut out for the
weekend) notifying you all about the new mail archive formats for the
gasification and digestion mailing lists that I've just completed setting
up.

If you're interested, point your trusty web browsers toward the following
URLs:

http://www.crest.org/renewables/gasification-list-archive
http://www.crest.org/renewables/digestion-list-archive

Note, at the top of both indices there's a link to last month's archive
(not much there now, but it'll be a handy way to look up previous
discussions without having to scan everything at once).

Enjoy!

Soren et al:

Your third point on tar removal by high temperature combustion followed by steam
addition proves my first point about higher complexity and cost. Without this
step how much tar would you have?

I am surprised that you think fixed beds have a higher heat loss than FBs. How
come?

I hope to be in Denmark in mid October. Hope we can get together and iron these
matters out. Send instsructions. Also willing to give lectures while there.

Hello,

Can someone help me to find praktical figures about carbon conversion in a
downdraft gasifier and circulating fluid bed gasifier. Also praktical
coldgas efficiencies would be a help.

We use willow as fuel.

Best regards,

Robbert van der Pluijm
