Folks, a couple unsolicited emails have shown up on the new lists, and those
have been taken care of.

I had the settings unknowingly allowing anyone to post to the list, not just
subscribed members.

All our lists are now set to only accept subscribed email addresses.

Quick note:

Please do not send management requests such as unsubscribe to the entire
list.

For the benefit of fellow list members, such chatter only fills up email
boxes.

Also, we will have added to the bottom of all lists basic instructions for
how to unsubscribe/subscribe to lists - such as:

To unsubscribe:

Send to: listserv@listserv.repp.org

Don't put anything in the subject area

Type in the message body: signoff listname

So for bioenergy:

to: listserv@listserv.repp.org

Signoff bioenergy

******* We will be performing updates, but remember, please have courtesy
for other list members, and please only send requests - for now - to
listserv, me (dkostiuk@repp.org), or your list manager.

Thank you,

Dear Tom,
Things are getting going in the gasification business. The Italian
project is finally moving ahead. The financial deals apparently have been
straightened out and I am going there this weekend to pick up some additional
funds.
I have received strong interest from engineering cos. I have about 6 who
are really stepping up to the plate and taking the lead. We have a couple who
are going to offer process warranties to the project developers. These
include tire to energy, waste to ethanol, poultry litter to power, hog manure
to power, sewage sludge to power.
I made a recent trip to Japan and I think it was largely a brain picking
exercise. I think that they are really not out to do anything but scarf up
whatever technology they can and stiff us inventors big time. Unfortunately
for them, I can innovate faster than they can understand it. They have a
really big government push for hydrogen technology and this is where we can
really shine. I am going to create some hydrogen production the gasification
industry will be proud of.
Anyhow, we will be revising our website here shortly and show what we are
up to. We have picked up lots of people who have been working with other
gasification guys and have gotten them into our camp.
Hope that you are busy.

Proceedings of the First International Ukrainian Conference on Biomass for
Energy (September 23-26, Kyiv) are issued on a compact disk. The compact
disk contains unique materials of the conference, which was attended by 180
specialists including 17 from Newly Independent States and 27 from the USA
and European countries (Austria, Denmark, Germany, Sweden and others). There
are on the disk 85 full texts of presentations and 120 abstracts on
technical, economic, ecological, legislative aspects of biomass-to-energy
technologies and also bioenergy development issues concerning Ukraine and
other countries. You can find also on the disk resolution of the conference,
full list of participants with their contact information, published booklets
and articles on bioenergy, conference photograph album and other useful
information. The disk is done in English and Russian.

One disk costs USD 40 or EUR 40

Folks,

One feature I think you will really like about the new software is how much
you don't need to know email commands.

To manage your own account goto:
http://listserv.repp.org/archives/index.html

Select the list you are subscribed to, and you will see two headings:

- Post to the list
- Join or leave the list (or change settings)

"Post to the list" is fairly self-evident, but "Join or leave the list (or
change settings)" allows you to modify all kinds of attributes about how
lists get to you.

One in particular is at the bottom: "Mail delivery disabled temporarily" -
this is very courteous for yourself and fellow list members when you go on
vacation, or if you ever use auto-reply such as "Out-of-office" messages.

Once you get back, simply sign back in and uncheck the box to start
receiving again.

The account management area is also where you can unsubscribe old email
addresses and add new ones.

Don't worry - this interface can't be used to unsubscribe people without
their permission - unless you sign in with a password you create - all
commands will send a confirmation message to the address modified.

For complete, if not bombastically thorough, instructions you can download
or view software literature at:

http://listserv.repp.org/cgi-bin/wa.cgi
Click on: "LISTSERV user's guide."

You can also find out everything at the software company's website:
http://www.lsoft.com/

A NOTE ABOUT THE ARCHIVES:

The discussion archives are being generated on a weekly basis by the system.

When browsing you may not know that if you leave your mouse arrow over the
buttons, a text description of the button will pop-up.

I'm not entirely *hip* to the look of the buttons, and will review
alternatives. Actually, I'm not sure the buttons are self-explanatory, so
I'm looking for a text and image combo.

LASTLY, there are features of this software I nor list managers are entirely
sure of. I believe some new one's will arise when we install a key allowing
this free version of listserv to become a purchased one. The main benefit
is we get up to 20 lists, and 1000 subscribers per (currently 500
subscribers max and only 10 lists). And believe me, the cost difference
between free and licensed is dramatic!

Well, that does it for now - I'm just glad the marketplace of ideas is back
open.

Cheers,
Damian, REPP

Hi Arnt and All,
I haven't sent anything to the list in a
month+ or even have a mail list to copy and only use
yahoo, not explorer for e-mail so it probably came
from someone else's address list. I don't keep a list
on yahoo either.

I agree, plain text is fine for lists.

..no? Ok, either your box, your isp, or the list host, did.
Long version with full headers and portscan etc output in
private mail to you and to list admin.

I would be very greatful if you would set up a new list called e.g.
gasification-admin to discuss such administrative and computer
virus/Windows ranting topics and then use that one yourself. At least
please discuss this directly with the administrator and not on the list.

That way we could stick to gasification topics on this list.
